Jessica Ward, Respiratory Therapist
At a young age of 16, Jessica made her team debut in our dietary department delivering food trays to our patients during their hospital stay. When asked about her favorite moment at Phelps Memorial, she said simply..."making a personal connection with patients and fellow teammates". Upon high school graduation, Jessica left town to pursue higher education. After a year of schooling, Jessica decided to move home to be closer to family. Phelps Memorial posted a housekeeping position and she applied immediately. The thought of connecting with patients and teammates once again was an exciting opportunity.
One day, she was eating lunch with the leader of our respiratory department and found out that Phelps Memorial offers loans to pursue higher education. After job shadowing for a few days in the respiratory department, Jessica applied to school and ultimately became a Respiratory Therapist. She said, "if it weren't for Phelps Memorial paying my way through school, I would never have been able to finish". She graduated in 2007 and connects with patients of many kinds daily. She "loves seeing the faces on people when she is able to help them become independent with their breathing". She finished our interview with, "I can't imagine working anywhere else. Phelps Memorial is my home."
