Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is to provide the learner with

  • Information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest;
  • Information and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children;
  • The cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.

PALS - 8:00am - 4:30pm - PMHC Lower Level Community Room. Register with ALS Affiliates at least one week before the class. This two day class is the initial certification of the new science. Must attend both days for certification. PMHC Employees register with Phyllis Osborn.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, 4 types of cardiac arrest
(simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), 4 types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia, and acute coronary syndrome), and stroke.

Pre-Hospital Medical Education - 3 Classes - June, October, & December
Pre-registration is MANDATORY. Walk-ins will be turned away if the classes are full. PMHC employees register with PMHC Education, all others register with ALS Affiliates, Inc. (Information found below)
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) - June
The AMLS Provider course is a two-day (16hour) in-depth study of medical emergencies. This course emphasizes a pragmatic approach and format, based on teaching the provider what they need to know. The curriculum is designed to allow for a minimal amount of lecture and an ample amount of actual hands-on physical assessment of patients.

When:   Friday May 31, & Saturday June 1, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Where:  PMHC Community Lower Level
Cost:    $200.00 classroom fee (plus cost of textbooks, ordered separately)

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - October
The Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support course is an intensive 16-20 hour experience. It is available to all levels of pre-hospital care providers, and programs are typically attended by Emergency First Responders (Fine, Police, Search & Rescue, etc.) EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, Physicians, and Physician Assistants. This course focuses on trauma patients in the pre-hospital environment- how to identify, manage, and transport them with the highest level of care and give them the greatest chance survival.

16 Hours Continuing Education

When:   Saturday, October 4, & Sunday October 5, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Where:  PMHC Community Lower Level
Cost:    $200.00 classroom fee (plus cost of textbooks, ordered separately)

Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals (PEPP) - December
PEPP represents a two-day complete source of pr-hospital medical information for emergent care of infants and children. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP is an exciting curriculum designed specifically to teach pre-hospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children.

16 Hours Continuing Education

When:   Saturday, December 6, & Sunday, December 7, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Where:  PMHC Community Lower Level
Cost:    $200.00 classroom fee (plus cost of textbooks, ordered separately)

EMS Trends

Good Samaritan Emergency Services
This program is part of the Mid-Nebraska Telemedicine Network and is the third Tuesday of each month. EMS Trends can be attended at Phelps Memorial Health Center in the lower level Conference Room via the TWIV (Two Way Interactive Video). You must register ahead of time for this. Continuing Education
Good Samaritan Emergency Services offers two hours of continuing education to all participants to be used towards their state certification. A certificate of attendance will be mailed to all participants following the course and after completion of necessary paperwork.
