HAITI
PHOTOS IN DRAWING: This is one example of the framed photographs
taken by Dan Christensen Photography last year in Haiti. He has put
together a colorful display of the island, from its history, its people
and its cultures. Several of these photographs will be among those
selected by the winners from the fund raising drawing.

Phelps Memorial Health Center nurses have been working on a fund raising
project to "Help Our Own Help Haiti." In honor of National Nurses Week
(May 6-12), PMHC nurses have taken on the project of helping two nurses
travel to Haiti with Dr. Stuart Embury's Christian Sojourn Haiti
organization to contribute to the medical mission work.
The Chief Nursing Officer at PMHC, Ann McGowan explained since nurses
and health care personnel in general are a "helping type" people, this
project during nurses week would be a great way to highlight "people
helping people."
"The intent of this fundraising project is to spread the word about the
ongoing need for more people to offer their services on this medical
Mission Trip to Haiti," said Mrs. McGowan. "Hopefully, next year a PMHC
employee will have learned enough about the trip that they offer to make
the trip."
The nurses traveling to Haiti this year have been doing so for years.
Their names are Joni Mickelsen and Lois Horst. Dr Embury indicated they
would be helped greatly by this project, as they do pay their own way on
the Mission Trip.
Phelps Memorial Health Center has had a Denim Day, where each employee
who wore jeans to work paid $5 or more to the project. They are also
holding a drawing for several framed photographs from Dan Christensen's
trip to Haiti last year with the Christian Sojourn group. Donations are
also always welcome. If you would like to make a donation, please send
it to PMHC Foundation, 1215 Tibbals Street, Holdrege, NE 68949.
The drawing for the Haitian photographs will take place May 1. The
winners will select their prize from the collection of photographs in
the order they were drawn. PMHC hopes to present the check to the nurses
during Nurses Week.
