Emergency Room

The Emergency Room at PMHC has four Bays, and is equipped to stabilize and treat a variety of emergency conditions. It is staffed 24/7 by physicians, physicians assistants, registered nurses, and paramedics, who are trained in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, as well as advanced trauma care. We treat over 3000 patients a year in the Emergency Department.

Phelps Memorial is designated as a Basic Level Trauma Center. This designation from the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services signifies our commitment to providing quality care to trauma patients.

Medical Emergency Warning Signs

When should I go to the Emergency Department? The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) provides the following warning signs that may indicate a medical emergency:

- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
- Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
- Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
- Changes in vision
- Confusion or changes in mental status
- Any sudden or severe pain
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Suicidal feelings
- Difficulty speaking
- Unusual abdominal pain
