Phelps Memorial Health Center broke ground on April 16, 2011. This was the start of an extensive renovation and expansion project. We opened our Patient Wing in February of 2012 and Surgical Services Department in February of 2013. Phelps Memorial is excited to be able to dedicate our hospital to the community. Join us on Saturday, June 1, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm to celebrate the Grand (re)Opening of these areas:
Main Entrance - One entrance for ALL services
Admissions/Patient Financial Services - Located inside our main entrance to serve all guests
The Terrace Cafe - Serving over 250 meals per day to our patients, visitors and team
Laboratory - Moving from a 900 square foot space to over 1900 square feet
Emergency Department - Featuring 6 private rooms with 1 specifically designed for trauma situations
Courtyard - Centrally located allowing guests a tranquil area while waiting for their loved ones
Same Day Services - Patients now have the luxury of 13 private rooms and a central nurses station
The project began with the need to update the infrastructure of our facility built in 1968. After conducting extensive research, the Board of Directors decided that in order to maximize funds and prepare for the future of Phelps Memorial, the community and our patients would be better served with an upgraded facility.
The finished construction, made possible by architects JJCA and managing contractors Brasfield & Gorrie, will add over 88,000 square feet to our facility for a total of over 127,000 square feet. This includes a new 25-bed patient wing including 4 obstetrics suites and 4 special care suites, 4 fully integrated operating suites, a centrally located courtyard, a larger laboratory, an emergency department with 6 private exam rooms including 1 specifically designed for traumas, a larger same day services department featuring 13 private rooms, a centrally located specialty clinic with 9 exam rooms and 2 minor procedure rooms, and the Terrace Cafe which serves over 250 meals to our patients, visitors and guests on a daily basis.
