Phelps Memorial Health Center broke ground on the new patient wing on April 16, 2011. After 308 days of construction, we are ready for patients to move into the new rooms. The project began with the need to update the infrastructure of our facility built in 1968. After conducting extensive research, the Board of Directors decided that in order to maximize funds and prepare for the future of Phelps Memorial, the community and our patients would be better served with new patient rooms in addition to an upgraded Central Energy Plant.
The finished construction, made possible by architects JJCA, added over 47,000 square feet to our facility. In place of the old patient wing will be 4 state-of-the-art operating suites and a beautiful courtyard that will offer rooms with a view. Our 25 patient rooms, including 4 obstetric rooms and 4 special care rooms, offer amenities that can only be compared a 5-star hotel. They all come complete with a 42" interactive flat screen television with the Big 10 Network, large bathrooms complete with a full-access shower in each, sofa sleeper for family and friends, a computer for nurse charting, and much more. The nurses stations are equipped with an upgraded nurse call system and nurse tracking system for a quieter environment for our patients and guests. The Obstetrics hall and Nursery include a controlled access system for added security of newborns and parents. The entire patient wing will be equipped with an upgraded security camera system.
