Phil Hinrichs was elected to the Board of Directors at the annual Phelps Memorial Health Center meeting. This meeting is a requirement of the Phelps County Memorial Hospital Association and was held Tuesday evening in the PMHC Conference Room.
Mr. Hinrichs is filling the seat left vacant by Sheryl McClymont who has served eight years, the maximum allowed with two four year terms.
Board Chairman Nancy Garrelts thanked Mrs. McClymont for the eight years she dedicated to Phelps Memorial Health Center.
"Sheryl served on many committees including the Home Health Committee and the Foundation Committee," Mrs. Garrelts said. "I appreciate your dedication and the expertise you brought to Phelps Memorial."
Mr. Hinrichs was also recognized as a great addition to the board. Mrs. Garrelts said his experiences in business will help the board in their decisions.
Mark Harrel, PMHC CEO, recapped the accomplishments and challenges of the past year, saying the year was one of tremendous activity.
"We broke ground on April 16, 2011, to build the new patient wing and update the infrastructure, and the patients moved into the all new rooms on February 20, 2012," he said.
He said other accomplishments for the year include a restructured Case Management team, with care coordinators Dorothy Anderson and Maria Ritter reviewing patient charts daily and working with physicians, nurses and patients to assure that everything is in place prior to patient discharge. The PMHC nurses are now working with the scanning of medications, and are working to continue to reduce patient falls.
"Leora Smith was named the new Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services. The improvements in nursing services can be directly attributed to Leora and her team," Mr. Harrel said. "Also, Sue Hardessen has been instrumental in the Case Management team and recruiting. She accepted the position of Senior Vice-President of Ancillary Services and brings years of experience, knowledge and expertise to Phelps Memorial."
Mr. Harrel said he is pleased with the successful recruiting of more surgeons in the past year, including Dr. O’Hare, Dr. Nealon, and Dr. Bryan Scheer, Orthopedic Surgeon. New contracts have just been signed with general surgeons Dr. Lee Howard and Dr. Kevin Fradkin, who will provide full time coverage for general surgery as well as give patients and physicians multiple options when choosing the surgeon for the necessary procedure.
"I also want to compliment Lisa Skaggs in Home Health who has worked with her team to increase patient satisfaction," he said. “These efforts earned the Phelps Memorial Home Health Department a top national award for Five Star Service in Home Health, from Avatar International."
