The Emergency Room at PMHC has four Bays, and is equipped to stabilize
and treat a variety of emergency conditions. It is staffed 24/7 by
physicians, physicians assistants, nurses, and paramedics, who are
trained in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life
support, as well as advanced trauma care. We treat nearly 3000 patients
a year in the Emergency Department at PMHC.
Basic Trauma Center
Phelps Memorial received its designation as a Basic Trauma Center in
January 2008. This Designation from the NE Department of Health & Human
Services signifies our commitment to providing quality care to trauma
patients.

Medical Emergency Warning Signs
When should I go to the Emergency Department? The American College of
Emergency Physicians (ACEP) provides the following warning signs that
may indicate a medical emergency:
Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
Changes in vision
Confusion or changes in mental status
Any sudden or severe pain
Uncontrolled bleeding
Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
Coughing or vomiting blood
Suicidal feelings
Difficulty speaking
Shortness of breath
Unusual abdominal pain
