• Ankle Brachial Index Test (ABI)

What is an ABI examination?
The test measures the pressure in the legs.

How long does the test take?
An average length of time would be 30 minutes.

How is the test done?
Blood pressure cuffs are placed on both arms and ankles and pressure readings are obtained at rest. A hand held instrument will then be moved gently over the area.

Preparation for the test:
There is no preparation needed for your exam.

How will I get the results?
A specialist will evaluate the test and prepare a report to be sent to your doctor. It may take several days to receive this report from your doctor.

Please arrive at the hospital 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled time and check in with Admissions. After you check in, you will be directed to the radiology department. A technologist will discuss your procedure with you and answer your questions.
