What is a colonoscopy?
This diagnostic tool evaluates the entire colon.
Do I have to do anything special to prepare for the test?
1. One day prior to colonoscopy: Eat only a light breakfast.
Drink only clear liquids and large amounts beginning
at 12:00 noon. Clear
liquids consist of water, hot /cold tea /coffee, pop, chicken/beef
broth with NO
meat or noodles, juices with no pulp, Gatorade, plain jello, or any
liquids you
can see through. “NO RED LIQUIDS”
“NO RED Jell-O”
NO milk, tomato juice or orange juice.
At 1:00pm drink one and a half (1 ½) oz of Fleets
Phosphosoda mixed in clear
liquids, then follow with more clear liquids.
At 3:00pm drink the other 1 ½ oz of Fleets Phosphosoda mixed
in clear liquids,
follow with MORE clear liquids.
At 4:00pm take 4 (four) Dulcolax tablets with a glass of
water.
You may continue to drink clear liquids as desired (the
MORE, the BETTER)
until MIDNIGHT before your procedure. Nothing more to eat or
drink until after
the procedure. You may brush your teeth.
Consult with your doctor if you take heart medication, Ferrous
Sulfate(iron), Coumadin, Lovenox, Insulin, Plavix, Aggrenox and/or
Aspirin.
Please bring someone with you to drive you home, as you will not
be permitted to drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after your
procedure.
Fleets Phosphosoda and Dulcolax tablets (4) can be picked up at any
pharmacy.
