What is a cardiovascular ultrasound examination?
An ultrasound examination is safe and painless. Ultrasound uses sound
waves to make an image.
How long does the test take?
An average length of time would be 30 minutes to 1 hour.
How is the test done?
The patient lies on an examining table. Only the skin over the area to
be studied will be exposed. A clear gel will be applied to the exposed
skin. A hand held instrument is then moved gently over the area.
Preparation for the test:
There is no preparation needed for your exam.
How will I get the results?
A specialist will evaluate the test and prepare a report to be sent to
your doctor. It may take several days to receive this report from your
doctor.
Please arrive at the hospital 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled
time. A technologist will discuss your procedure with you, answer your
questions and take other information needed.
