Diagnoses often treated by occupational therapy include: work related accidents, stroke or heart attack, burns, spinal cord injury, amputations, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's. Also treated are patients with birth injuries, learning problems and development or learning disability or other physical injury or illness.
One of the many professional services offered by Phelps Memorial Therapy
Center is the Functional Capacity Evaluation. This is a useful tool to assist the injured worker back to gainful employment. FCE's provide comprehensive and objective data used to make job recommendations, work restrictions, |
| disability ratings, treatment plans and assessments of rehabilitation. They can be done at the beginning of a work conditioning program to determine what baselines should be set up for the patient's rehabilitation program or it may be a one time visit to see what a person's lift capacities are. The results of the FCE can indicate such issues as the work level at which the individual is currently functioning, if the person can safely perform the physical requirements of the job, and if the person is giving his/her full and consistent effort.
Phelps Memorial Therapy Center is home to lifting equipment used to perform FCEs and enhance the recovery process for injured employees. Various testing equipment used includes: the Omni 500 Static Lifting Platform which tests ones ability to lift in different postures, the Push/Pull Sled which tests ones ability to push and pull, and the Lift Station II that tests dynamic lifting utilizing boxes. By using boxes, a natural lifting posture is used to test eight different postures. |
