• Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

This procedure is used to assess breast tissue that may appear suspicious but prefers a non-surgical method of biopsy.

PATIENT PREPARATION:
1. Bring a relative or friend to support and drive you home
2. You will be instructed by your doctor or surgeon about taking your regular
    medications
*Your doctor or surgeon may ask you NOT to take aspirin &/or blood thinners before your procedure.*

PROCEDURE:
Consent form(s) will be discussed and signed before your procedure. You will be lying on your stomach and with your breast positioned through an opening in the table. It will be much like a mammogram, only your breast will remain compressed during the procedure. Many images will be taken to direct the surgeon to the tissue being biopsied. Many samples of the tissue will be taken for examination. Your doctor or surgeon will instruct you about how to take care of your breast and follow up appointment(s).

Most women report little to no pain during the exam, some have discomfort from lying on their stomach for the length of the procedure.
