Total Joint Camp & Spine Camp

Preparing You for Surgery and Recovery

At Phelps Memorial Health Center, our Total Joint Camp & Spine Camp help patients prepare for joint replacement and spine surgery. These educational sessions provide patients and their support person with the information and resources they need to feel confident and prepared before, during and after surgery.

Patients are encouraged to bring a family member, friend or caregiver who will assist them during recovery.

What to Expect at Camp

Held in a group setting, these sessions allow patients and their guests to learn alongside others preparing for similar procedures.

During camp, our team will cover:

  • Preparing for surgery and what to expect on surgery day
  • Post-operative care and exercises
  • Infection prevention
  • Recovery expectations
  • Discharge planning and care at home

Patients will also receive special antibacterial soap with instructions for use before surgery, have blood drawn and meet individually with our Discharge Planning Team to discuss their needs following surgery.

About Total Joint Camp & Spine Camp

Total Joint Camp & Spine Camp are a part of joint replacement and surgical spine services at Phelps Memorial Health Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring a guest that will be looking after them when they leave the hospital. At the program, patients and guests will learn what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

The camp takes place in a group setting as patients and guests will benefit from engaging with others going through the same experience. The Phelps Team will review every detail from pre-operative education to post-operative exercising. We will also discuss infection prevention and discharge planning needs.

Duration and Details

A teammate from Phelps Memorial Health Center will contact you to schedule your camp. 

The camp is held weekly and typically lasts 1 hour. Patients will receive special antibacterial soap with instructions on how to use it before surgery. We will also draw blood during the camp. Patients and guests will meet one-on-one with our Discharge Planning Team allowing the opportunity to discuss discharge needs prior to surgery.
