Lung Cancer Screening

Phelps Memorial offers low-dose CT lung cancer screening to help detect lung cancer earlier in patients who may be at increased risk.

Current U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations include annual low-dose CT lung cancer screening for adults who:

  • Are between ages 50 and 80
  • Have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history
  • Currently smoke or quit smoking within the past 15 years

A pack-year is calculated by multiplying the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day by the number of years a person smoked.

Lung cancer screening is not appropriate for everyone. Talk with your healthcare provider about your smoking history, health and whether lung cancer screening may be appropriate for you.
