The Surgical Services Team consists of highly trained PMHC teammates, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and over 15 visiting specialty physicians and surgeons. Our visiting surgeons offer surgical services in many areas including endoscopy, urology, podiatry, ophthalmology, dentistry, ear, nose, and throat, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, spine, orthopedics, and pain management.

Operating Suites

Our surgical services department spans 33,000 square feet which include three operating suites and two scope rooms. One of our operating suites consists of a unique bay for newborn babies to receive care immediately after they are born through a cesarean section. All equipped suites feature state-of-the-art Stryker Integrated Operating Systems. To ensure exceptional care for those patients requiring surgical procedures on their spine, we have equipped one of the operating suites with a “Spinal Table System” which allows the surgeon more options based on the needs of the patient. Each equipped operating suite is fully equipped with identical anesthesia equipment. These systems are capable of integrating medical data that can be transferred between suites if needed.

Scope Rooms

Phelps Memorial offers two scope rooms for patients receiving pain management treatment, gastrointestinal scopes, and more. Offering two rooms allow for increased efficiency for our doctors and patients. The endoscopy video equipment in each room allows the doctor to utilize the camera and view the work in real-time on a 26” monitor. The equipment also features a printer for the doctor and patient to see procedure details.

Recovery/PACU

After the procedure, patients are taken to the six-bay recovery room. Here, our team cares for each patient as they begin their recovery.  After the recovery process, depending on the type of procedure, patients are then either discharged by our same day services team with detailed instructions on how to continue their care at home or moved to the patient wing for an extended stay.

Central Sterile Department

The Central Sterile Department is responsible for sterilizing surgical equipment and instruments for surgery and obstetrics. They are a vital asset when it comes to infection prevention at Phelps Memorial. Our team utilizes the latest in sterilization equipment. With three active operating suites throughout each day, our sterilization systems allow us to quickly sterilize the instrumentation to be used immediately on another case or stored in the sterile storage area for future surgery. These systems deliver the highest standard of care possible for our patients.
